Started to change in early 1900s… now having lots of casinos and landmarks built there
In 1905 the railroad arrived in LV connecting the city with the Pacific Ocean
Describe the building styles in Las Vegas
Bright, modern, large, sky scrapers, all unique
Describe the road layout in Las Vegas
Why is it different to more ‘traditional towns’?
All very laid out, planned and look similar as they are in distinct blocks
- as traditional towns would have more windy lands and smaller roads leading into others rather than being so set out
Why are the roads in Las Vegas really straight and don’t have loads of smaller roads going off them?
As the cars being invented now are really modern ans don’t need all the smaller lanes to go into like you may have needed years ago as people would have been transported by horse and carriage.
Similarly, farming vehicles are not popular anymore here
How has the population of Las Vegas changed since 1973?
Population then - 332,000 approx
Now (2000) - 1.5 million approx
Why has the population of Las Vegas almost quadrupled in the last 30 years?
Because of urban sprawl
How are the rules about building new buildings different to the UK?
Not as many rules as population is much larger (America) so they need more houses and their population is growing rapidly
What has happened to employment overtime in Las Vegas?
The amount of jobs in leisure are hospitality has risen quite rapidly… as tourism is a huge thing here so they need lots of people employed in this Sector to do jobs such as run hotels + holiday resorts
