Pt instructed to kneel on a table 18 inches from floor, bend forward at the trunk, and touch the floor. Doctor hold ankles.
Burn’s Bench Test
(+) = pt refuses to perform
Pt supine. Doctor places one hand under each heel and asks pt to lift affected limb.
Hoover’s Sign
(+) = doc doesn’t feel unaffected side pressing downward
Pt is sitting upright on the edge of a table or chair which has no backrest. Examiner faces pt and usually under the guise of “checking circulation” extends the pts legs below the knee, one at a time, so that the limb is parallel with the floor.
Lasegue’s Sitting
(+) = No pain where there had been a +SLR
At beginning of case hx, pt is asked to point to the site of pain on the back; the examiner marks it with a skin pencil. Later on, pt is again asked to point to the site of pain.
Magnusson’s
(+) = pt does not point to same point
Doctor takes resting pulse rate. Doctor then applies pressure over painful area and takes pulse rate again.
Mannkopf’s Sign
(+) = Increase of 10 bpm is no malingerer
