Male reproductive system Flashcards
The male perineum consists of
urethra, scrotum, penis, perineal muscles and anal canal
Where does the membranous urethra start and end?
It begins at the apex and ends at the bulb of the penis
Where does the spongy urethra start and end
it starts at the end of the membranous urethra and ends at the external urethral orifice
The urethral glands secrete
mucus
What is the scrotum?
A cutaneous fibromuscular sac for the testes and epididymis
What parts does the penis consist of?
Root, body and glans
What are the three erectile tissues in the penis?
The paired corpora cavernosa and the corpus spongiosum
Which part of the penis is suspended from the pubic symphysis?
The body of the penis
The penis is supplied by which arteries?
Branches of the internal pudendal arteries
How does erection occur?
The corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum become engorged with blood at arterial pressure, causing them to swell, which elevates the penis
What causes the arterial pressure needed for an erection?
The cavernous nerves close the arteriovenous anastomoses upon stimulation
Which three things are needed for ejaculation?
Closure of the internal urethral sphincter, contraction of the urethral muscle, and contraction of the bulbospongiosus muscles
Which seven structures make up the male internal genital organs?
The testes, epididymides, ductus deferentes, seminal glands, ejaculatory ducts, prostate, and bulbo-urethral glands
Where does the ductus deferens/vas deferens start and end
It begins at the tail of the epididymis and ends by joining the duct of the seminal gland to form the ejaculatory duct
What do the seminal glands secrete?
A thick alkaline fluid that mixes with the sperms
Where do the seminal glands lie?
Between the fundus of the bladder and the rectum
Name the four lobules of the prostate
The inferoposterior lobule, inferolateral lobule, superomedial lobule, and anteromedial lobule
The prostatic ducts open into the ……
prostatic sinuses
