MAJOR PARTS OF A GENERAL X-RAY UNIT Flashcards
1
Q
Low tension cables
A
- These are current carrying conductors whose insulation can
withstand a maximum voltage of up to 1000volts. - They have three colour codes
2
Q
ow tension cables colour codes
A
- live wire = Brown
- Neutral wire = Blue
- Earth wire = green
3
Q
High tension cables
A
- These cables are used in the high-tension circuit of the x-ray machine.
4
Q
what surround the high tension cables
A
- They are surrounded by a thick rubber insulation which is then enclosed by a metallic braid.
5
Q
function of the metallic braid
A
Protects the wires when bending
6
Q
High Tension transformer
A
- Its function is to provide the high voltage necessary for x-ray production
7
Q
X-RAY TUBE
A
Source of radiation
8
Q
2 parts of x-ray tube
A
- The cathode assembly
- The anode
9
Q
X-ray tube housing
A
- The x-ray tube is located inside Barrel shaped housing
- protects and insulates the x-ray tube.
- Provides for the attachment of the light beam diaphragm
10
Q
X-ray tube support
A
- It provides support and mobility for the tube
- It also holds the tube during the exposure rendering it immobile this reduces motional Un sharpness and accidental falling on the patient
11
Q
There are five systems of tube support
A
- Overhead (ceiling) tube suspension system
- The floor-to-ceiling suspension system
- Floor suspension system
- C-arm tube suspension system
- A mobile tube suspension system
12
Q
Advantages of ceiling suspended
A
- Uncluttered flow space due to absence of floor track
- Greater area of the room made available for radiography due to increased transverse movement of the tube
- flexibility in positioning as it allows a wide range of movements
- Ability to radiograph patients on accident trolley, wheel chairs etc
- Ability to take lateral views either side of the table/ horizontal shot
thru
13
Q
disadvantage of ceiling suspended
A
- Possible need to reinforce the ceiling to provide necessary strength to hold the tracks, suspension and tube
- Need for minimum room height
- Extra length of high-tension cable needed to cover the increased area.
14
Q
Control console
A
- A device that allows the radiographer to manipulate the exposure factors and to initiate the exposure
15
Q
Parameters on the control console
A
- Power switch
- mA switch
- mAs switch
- KvP switch
- Timer
- Exposure switch
- prep or rotor
