What are the purpose of headlines?
Draws attention to feature + allows us to see at a glance whether it will be interesting
What are slugs?
They accompany a headline. Appear in larger typeface than main text + provide more info for reader
What are the purpose of slugs?
Act as a hook, or create a narrative enigma (entice reader to read on)
What are columns + pull quotes used for?
To visually break up text, providing relief for eyes + making content easier to absorb
What is an example of typographic code?
Drop caps - first letter at beginning of article is enlarged for effect
How are magazines constructed?
To be visual + appealing
What are feature articles?
Entry points in magazine - articles u flip through, will draw ur eye
How are images styled?
Digitally manipulated. Subject centre frame looks directly into camera to create direct address
Images dont capture real events like newspapers + are retouched
