erythromycin, clarythromycin and azithromycin

lipophilic so they pass through cell membranes very easily so are useful for treating infections where bacteria hide from the hosts immune system by getting into host cells (legionella) and bacteria that do not have a proper bacterial cell wall (mycoplasma and chlamydia)

A
erythromycin is safe to use in pregnancy but clarythromycin and azithromycin have not been trialled
