MOA of macrolides ?

Erythromycin and other macrolides bind to bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibit protein synthesis. It interferes with translocation of elongated peptide chain from peptidyl to acceptor site of ribosome → inhibition of peptide chain elongation and protein synthesis. They are bacteriostatic, but at high concentrations, they can act as bactericidal agents. They are more active at alkaline pH.
