MACCS Flashcards
Identify the (3) principle objectives of the Marine Air Command and Control System (MACCS)
(DIE)
-Disseminates common SA. (Goes beyond info relay. All MACCS agencies communicate with each other and share data/radar/intel. Synergistic. **DASC is part is MACCS and provides situation updates to airborne aircraft.
-Integrates C2. (Ensures all different agencies can talk and communicate with each other (MWCS).
-Enhances unity of effort. (MACCS ensure everyone is on the same page and working together to accomplish MAGTF/and Joint missions.
Identify the primary role of the Tactical Air Command Center (TACC)
-Functions as the senior MACCS agency. Manages all AC and SA weapons in the MAGTF AO to ensure balance use of assets.
-Responsible for the Air Tasking Order and Airspace Control Order.
-Joint coordination
-COPS, FOPS, Future Plans, and Air Combat Intel
Identify the primary role of the Marine Air Traffic Control (MATC)
-Provide continuous all-weather radar/non-radar approach/departure, enroute, and tower ATC services.
-Ops liaison between MAGTF and nat/internat. agencies
-METOC
-MMT 4-6 man team can rapidly go to a site and provide ATC functions: mobile tacan, radios. Can act as a C3 Node
Identify the primary role of the LAAD Bn.
-Provides close in, low-alt SAM weapons in defense of the MAGTF. The LAAD Bn provides the ACE commander the only organic SAM weapons and expeditionary counter-UAS capability in the MAGTF
Identify the primary role of the Direct Air Support Center (DASC)
-Usually colocated with the FSCC
-Principal MACCS air control agency responsible for the direction of air operations directly supporting ground forces. (PIMP)
-Process immediate direct air support requests
-Integrate air with other supporting arms
-Manage terminal control assets
-Procedurally (or combined) control of aircraft within is assigned area
Identify the primary role of the Tactical Air Operations Center
-Primary air and missile defense agency In the MAGTF
-Airspace surveillance via datalink and positive control (G/ATOR radar). Push their radar picture to the AO.
-Air battle managers: Talking to aircraft and ground based missiles to destroy the enemy air threat
Identify the primary role of the Sector Air Defense Commander
-Usually colocated with the TAOC
-Supervise, manage, and coordinate air defense operations within assigned sector
-Manages and supervises theatre missile defense operations within the AO
Identify the primary role of the Marine Wing Communication Squadron
-Installs, operates, and maintains expeditionary communications for the entire ACE.
MACCS Extensions (4)
-Tactical Air Control Party (TACP): Submits preplalled and immediate air support requests
-Forward Air Controller Airborne (FAC(A)): Extension of TACP. Controls aviation fires / CAS and provides BHA
-Tactical Air Coordinator Airborne (TAC(A)): Airborne extension of the DASC or TACC. Deconflicts aircraft and coordinates the employment of air resources with supporting arms
-Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR): Manages DAS missions and provides BHA to TAOC or DASC.
