Intelligence Support to Air Ops Flashcards
Explain the process conducted by the staff to develop a better understanding of the environment and the steps associated with this process
IPB
Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace
-Systematic and continuous process of analyzing the Weather, Enemy, and Terrain in a specific geographical area. (WET)
-Process that allows staff to consider ALL the relevant variables in a geographic area
-Planning activity undertaken by the entire staff
Explain the steps in the Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (IPB)
1) Define the operational area of operation, influence, and interest
2) Describe the effects on operations
3) Evaluate the threat (Enemy doctrine,caps/lims, composition and disposition)
4) Determine threat COAS based on first 3 steps
Weather plays large factor in COAs
Describe products produces by the intelligence section to support mission planning and execution
-All Source intel=Intel. Specialist 0231 (Threat slides/briefs)
GEOINT = Imagery Analyst 0241 (Airfields, LZ, DZ study. Less than 2 Km)
GEOINT = Topography Analyst 0261 (Urban reference Graphic, printed maps).
SIGINT = ELINT Intercept Analyst 2631 (ELINT analysis, emitter location, pattern of life)
SIGINT = COMINT Collection Analyst 2621 (Product reports, transmission time windows)
Explain how Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs) are used to facilitate decision-making
-Umbrella’d under CCIRs, beside Fr. Forces Info. Req (FFIR)
-They are questions about adversary we need to collect upon / may need to request support to do so
-Concise (ask one question), -Focused (specific fact, events, activities), -Clear (what intel is required), -Specific (contain geographical area and time), -Critical (tied to a decison)
It is what we NEED to know
Describe a Named Area of Interest (NAI)
A point, line or area where activity or lack of will confirm or deny which COA
Where we are going to look for it
Describe a Target Area of Interest (TAI)
A point, line, or area that interdicted with fire will cause the threat to adopt a different COA. Part of the fire support plan. Area where HVT and High Payoff Targets can be acquired and engaged by friendly forces.
