Catharsis:
A term Aristotle used to describe the release of emotions.
Tragic hero:
A tragic hero is the protagonist of a tragedy in dramas.
Hamartia:
An error committed by a tragic hero or heroine which leads to their downfall.
Hubris:
Excessive pride or self-confidence.
Pathos:
The feeling of pity or sorrow evoked by a text.
Bathos:
The movement from the elevated to the ridiculous, ordinary or mundane (anti-climax).
Anagnorisis:
The recognition by the tragic hero of some truth about his or her identity or actions that accompanies the reversal of the situation in the plot, the peripeteia.
Peripeteia:
Peripeteia: a sudden reversal of fortune or change in circumstances, especially in reference to fictional narrative.
