M3.14 Flashcards
1
Q
What does CIVIL mean when it comes to capacitors and inductors?
A
- when it comes to capacitors (C) the current (I) leads the voltage (V)
- when it comes to inductors (L) the voltage (V) leads the current (I)
- this is all about sine waves
2
Q
What is a phaser?
A
It is just an easier way to draw sine waves by using a 360 circle
3
Q
What are the three types of power?
A
- true power
- reactive power
- apparent power
4
Q
What is true power?
A
Electrical energy that is able to convert int something else
P=VxI
5
Q
What is reactive power?
A
Energy that gets stored but not used
Q=VxI
Yes its the same formula but it has a phase shift of 90
6
Q
What is apparent power?
A
This is the sum of true power and reactive power but as there is a phase shift you cant just add them together
(To get this you have to use Pythagoras)
