M11.5.1 Flashcards
What is the job of the flight instruments?
To provide all data to perform a safe an economic flight
What instruments are in the basic T?
- altimeter
- airspeed indicator
- artificial horizon
- compass
What does the altimeter do?
Indicates the altitude of the aircraft above sea level
What two instruments use data from outside the aircraft?
Altimeter and airspeed indicator
What does ISA stand for?
International standard atmosphere
In a old altimeter what do he two pointers represent?
100ft and 1,000ft
How does an altimeter work?
It uses atmosphere pressure to give a reading
In the standard atmosphere the static pressure at sea level is what?
1013.25 hectopascals
What happens every 18,000ft?
The static pressure halves
What happens to pressure after an altitude increase of 30ft?
Decreases by 1hectopascal
What does the baro set knob do on the altimeter?
It changes the reference pressure
What is dynamic pressure?
Difference between total pressure and static pressure
How is dynamic pressure calculated?
V²x1/2density
What unit does the airspeed indicator use?
Knots
What does the green band indicate on the airspeed indicator?
Normal operating range
What does the white band indicate on the airspeed indicator?
Full flap operating range
What does the yellow band indicate on the airspeed indicator?
Caution range
What does the vertical speed indicator tell the pilot?
The rate of climb or descent (ft per min)
What does the mach meter display?
The mach number
What does EFIS stand for?
Electronic flight instrument system
What does SAT stand for?
Static air temperature
What does TAT stand for?
Total air temperature
Why is the TAT probe also named the rose mount probe?
After the manufacturer
What senses the temperature inside the temperature probe?
Thermistor
Why is there a static port on both sides of the aircraft?
Because side slip will give a false reading
What is the job of the baffle plate in the probe?
To prevent water or FOD entering
Why are the called pitot tubes?
After the french inventor
What does ADIRU stand for?
Air data inertial reference unit
When would the altitude alert system activate?
When the aircraft deviates more than 300ft
