Q

Why are lymph nodes important in tumour spread?

A

If a tumour metastasises –> is likely to metastasise into the lymphatic system
–> If cancer cell is in a lymph node, can identify where it potentially came from

Q

Thoracic duct

  • where
  • what
  • drain the…
A
  • Junction between internal jugular vein & left subclavian vein
  • Where lymph re-enters the venous system
  • Lymph from ALMOST all of the body –> R cervical & R upper limb = same place but on the right
17
Q

What is lymph?

A

Fluid that remains in the extracellular space, after being forced out of the capillaries

18
Q

Lymph nodes & the immune system

A

Lymph nodes = filters

  • Contain T & B lymphocytes
  • = recognise foreign bodies in the lymph –> start an immune response
