LVOs Flashcards
What is the difference between cat III dual and cat IIIB?
Cat III dual is the AC capability
Cat IIIB is a facility offered by the airport.
B for building??
We can’t use our capability unless we can match it to the facilities on the ground… Unless we have a superior system. Ie we can use 3b to cat I minima, but not vice versa.
What is the lowest FMA required for an auto land?
Cat II
Note: this is not the approach type, it’s the AC capability type. So we can do a LTS cat I with auto land, but only if catIIIB-catII is available in the AC systems.
What is the alert height?
A specified radio height above which if a failure occurred the approach would need to be discontinued.
Below this height we must continue.
Where are departure minima found?
In the LIDO CCIs, AOI
What is the Approach Ban point?
1000ft agl, or mda/mdh if these are HIGHER THAN 1000’ aal.
Note then, if you pass 1000ft and vis (RVR) reduces, you may continue.
What are the absolute minima for our approaches in terms of cloud base and visibility?
Should this question arise in the cockpit, the answers are found in the QRH, Supplementary Information section. The lido minima are also found on the IAC.
Cat 1 200’ 550m
LTS cat 1 200’ 400-450m
Cat 2 100’RADIO 300m
Cat 3A(ie Cat3) 50’ RADIO 200m
Cat 3B NA 75m
What does COMPANY mean in the minima box?
It means NO DH for us, which we would enter in the baro section of the perf page.
Note there are some ADs where there are still minima for catIIIB cloud bases.
What is the missed approach minimum climb gradient on cat 2 and 3 approaches?
2.5%
What are the auto land limits?
A319, A320 Sharklet and non sharklet?
Wind A319 5 TW 20 XW 20 HW
10 TW
20 XW
30 HW
For sharklets, 15kts XW max for automatic rollout, BUT still 20kt XW for the approach. So basically you’d need to disengage the autopilot immediately after touchdown and you’d still be good.
What is the difference between LVOs and LVPs?
Low vis OPS is what WE do,
Low vis PROCEDURES is what the aerodrome does.
Think- were running an operation, we ask the aerodrome if we can proceed…
What are amber and green centre lights showing?
High speed exit lights and exit lights.
They go green when runway vacated.
How far before the end are the red taxi lights?
300m
How far before the end are red and white runway lights?
900 to 300m
How far down the runway are the centreline lights white?
Threshold to 900m.
How many consecutive RVR sections are required for Take off and Landing?
According to the QRH:
Provided the correct lighting is present and LVPs are in force, the RVR required for take off is 125m across all relevant RVRs.
For landing, it is as per the Instrument Approach chart for the relevant RVRs.
