Q

Explain the splitting of the trachea.

A
  • It goes in through the trachea (windpipe)
  • the trachea is then split into two tubes called bronchi (bronchus singular) one going in each lung
  • bronchi is then split progressively into small tubes called bronchioles
  • bronchioles then end in small bags called alveoli where gas exchange takes place

Q

How does the alveoli carry out gas exchange?

A

the alveolus has a high concentration and the blood has a low concentration so oxygen diffuses out of the alveolus into the blood

the blood then has a higher concentration than the alveolus so the carbon dioxide is diffused out into the alveolus to be breathed out.
