Circulatory System- The Heart Flashcards
What is the function of circulatory system?
carries food and oxygen to every cell in our body as well as carries waste products to where they can be removed from the body.
What is circulatory system made up of?
heart
blood vessel
blood
Explain the double circulatory system
- the right ventricle take deoxygenated blood to the lungs to take in oxygen and then the blood is then taken to the heart.
(VincentsDogLivesOutsideBobbysHouse)
(VDLOBH) - the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood around all the other organs in the body. it then gives up its oxygen when it reaches the body cells and the deoxygenated blood is returned to the heart to be pumped out of the lungs again
What is the heart?
pumping organ that keeps blood flowing through the body
What is the function of a valve?
makes sure that the blood is flowing in the right direction
What are the four chambers of the heart?
right atrium
left atrium
right ventricle
left ventricle
How does the blood use it’s four chambers to pump blood around the body?
- blood flows into the atrium from the vena cava (left atrium) and pulmonary vein (right atrium)
- the atria contract pushing the blood into the ventricles
- the ventricles contract forcing the blood to move into the pulmonary artery (right ventricle) and the aorta (left ventricle)
- blood then flows to organs through arteries then returns through the veins
What is the function of the coronary artery?
branch off the aorta and surround the heart making sure it gets the oxygenated blood it needs
What is a pacemaker?
cells that produce electric impulses that spread to surrounding muscle cells causing them to contract.
If a person doesn’t have a regular heart beat an artificial pacemaker is implanted under the skin.
What are the walls of the heart mostly make from?
muscle tissue
