Describe the horizontal fissure on the left lung

A

On the left there is a corresponding fissure similar to that of the right lung, that separates out the lingula lobe - but this is never complete.

Q

What is the function of the oblique fissure?

A

The oblique fissure provides a slippery surface between the upper and lower parts, thus allowing these to move much more easily and expand more fully.
