Gently raise and lower the forearm to expose the large depression that is in the elbow crease, just lateral to the cordlike tendon of the biceps. Locate and needle with the elbow slightly bent (flexed).

7 cun proximal to Lu 9, on the line joining Lu 9 - Lu 5. The point lies on the ulnar border of the radius, in the muscle that raises the forearm (brachioradialis).

1½ cun proximal to Lu 9. Feel along the channel from Lu 9, through Lu 8, then move out diagonally and radially to where the styloid process of the radius starts to flare. The point lies here on the ventral lateral surface of the forearm just medial to the lateral edge of the radius, and medial to the tendon that raises the thumb (abductor pollicis longus). To locate this tendon place your finger roughly where you feel the point to be and ask your patient to rotate their thumb. You will feel the tendon as they pull their thumb back.

I cun proximal to Lu 9. Find the highest point of the radial edge of the styloid process of the radius. At that level, come across (towards the ulna) until you are just radial to the radial artery.
The point lies here, in a little cranny between the bone and the artery.

The point lies at the proximal radial corner of the scaphoid bone Starting at the centre of the distal wrist crease, feel out laterally towards the thumbside, over a round knobbly carpal bone (the scaphoid). The point is on the proximal, radial corner of this carpal bone at the flexure of the wrist. It is essential to raise and lower the person’s hand to expose the position of the flexure of the wrist. The point lies between the largish tendon that pulls up the wrist (flexor carpi radialis) and the little tendon that controls the thumb (abductor pollicis longus).

Mark 12 cun from Lu 9 - Lu 5.

The point lies along theIst MC bone in the seam between bone and the muscle. The bone has a continuous curve along it’s shaft, from the head to the base, and the point is found at it’s mid-point, betwen the bone and the muscle. The point lies on the radial edge of the thenar eminence of the palm, in the seam that you can feel between the muscles that open out the thumb (abductor pollicis brevis and opponens pollicis) and the Ist MC bone. (Notice that this is at the junction of change in skin tone and texture.)
