Q

Small cell carcinoma of lung management?

A

Palliation

  1. Radio: bronchial obstruction, haemoptysis, bone or CNS mets
  2. SVC obstruction: stenting + radio + dexamethasone
  3. Endobronchial therapy: stenting, brachytherapy
  4. Pleural drainage
  5. Analgesia
17
Q

Prognosis of small cell

A

1-1.5yrs median survival treated;

3mo untreated

18
Q

Prognosis of non-small cell

A

50% 5ys w/o spread

10% ̄c spread

19
Q

Malignant mesothelioma def

A

mesothelial cell tumour in pleura

20
Q

Cause of mesothelioma

A

asbestos

21
Q

Dx of mesothelioma

A

thoracoscopy, biopsy + histology

normally post-mortem

22
Q

Rx of mesothelioma

A

Pemetrexed + cisplatin chemotherapy

Pleurodesis and indwelling intra-pleural drain may help

23
Q

Pleurodesis

A

adhering visceral and parietal pleurae

stops air/fluid building up
