Lumbosacral Plexus And Lower Limb Overview Flashcards
Subcutaneous superficial fascia of lower leg
Continuous with the abdominal wall (scarpas and campers fascia)
Deep fascia of the lower limb
Strong investing fascia that limits outward expansion of contracting muscles
Contracts of skeleton muscle in these compartments moves venous flow up from foot/leg to heart against gravity
Varicose veins
Dilated veins that have dysfunctional valves.
Dysfunctional valves allow retrograde backflow of venous blood
Often present with pooling of blood in lower legs
Iliotibial tract (IT BAND)
Shared aponeurosis between tensor fascia lata and gluteus Maximus
Holds leg in extension, stabilizes hip joint and prevents lateral displacement of femur
4 major regions of lower limbs
Gluteal
Femoral
Crural
Pedal
Simplified dermatome testing of lower limb
L1: inguinal region
L2: superior medial thigh
L3: superior medial knee
L4: medial malleolus
L5: webbing between 1st and 2nd digit
S1: heel
S2: medial popliteal fossa
S3: middle of buttocks
S4: most medial portion of buttocks
