Lower Limb Innervation And Vascular Supply Flashcards
Femoral triangle is made up of what?
Lateral: sartorius
Medial: adductor longus
Superior: inguinal triangle
Contains the femoral nerve, artery, vein and lymphatic (NAVL) in the femoral sheath
Femoral sheath path way
Through the adductor canal to the adductor hiatus into the posterior popliteal fossa
3 divisions of the femoral health
Lateral: contains femoral branch of genitofemoral
Intermediate: femoral vein
Medial: femoral ring opening fro fat and lymphatics
Saphenous opening
Passage of the greater saphenous vein from superifical to deep fascia and then meets up with femoral vein
What vein is most used for arterial bypass?
Saphenous vein
Location of saphenous cutdown
Anterior to the medial malleolus. Can insert cannula drugs
Obturator artery
Gives rise to acetabular branches which supply the femoral head and acetabulum.
Femoral artery branches
Deep femoral
Lateral/medial circumflex femoral
Perforating branches
Popliteal artery branches
5 genicular branches
Superior medial and lateral genicular
Inferior medial and lateral genicular
Middle genicular
Anterior tibial artery supplies what
Anterior leg, dorsal foot
Posterior tibial artery supplies what?
Posterior and lateral leg, soles of foot
Gluteus Maximus action and innervation
Extends and lateral rotation of thigh
Inferior gluteal nerve
Piriformis action and innervation
Abduct flexed thigh and lateral rotation of thigh
Nerve to piriformis
Gluteus medius, minimus and tensor fascia lata
Abduction, medial rotation and prevents pelvic drop
Superior gluteal nerve
Obturator internus and gemellus superior
Abudcts thigh and lateral rotates
nerve to obturator internus
Quadratics femoris and gemellus inferior actions and innervation
Abucts flexed thigh and laterally rotates
Nerve to quadratus femoris
What structures are at risk for an intramuscular injections of butt?
Superior gluteal artery and nerve, sciatic nerve
Piriformis syndrome
Compression of sciatic nerve by the piriformis usually through hypertrophy. Also common fibular nerve is disrupted also
-usually affects dorsiflexion and eversion
If the tendons of the leg muscles attach medially what does it do?
Inversion
If the tendons attach to the medial side of the leg what does it help?
Eversion
