Neurofibromatosisa.k.a.Von Recklinghausen’s Disease
1.) A heredity (autosomal dominant trait) disorder that produces pigmented spots, and pedunculated soft-tissue nodules clustered along nerve sheaths2.) Nodules develop during childhood, growing to more than 0.5cm in size3.) Nodules grow throughout individuals life reaching 1.5cm or more in size4.) Cafe-au-lait patches are usually seen over the trunk, pelvis and flexor creases of the elbows and knees5.) Bone changes may result in skeletal deformities: i.) Scoliosis ii.) Vertebral body scalloping iii.) Fibrous dysplasia iv.) Tibial pseudoarthrosis v.) Sphenoid bone deformity vi.) Mental impairment, seizures, hearing loss, exophthalmosis, decreased visual acuity, and GI bleeding eventually occur
- Spondylolisthesis
Anterior or posterior displacement of a vertebra on the adjacent lower vertebra
- Spondylolysis
A unilateral or bilateral defect in the pars interarticularis. The defect may or may not be associated with spondylolisthesis
- Spondylolytic Spondylolisthesis
A unilateral or bilateral defect in the pars interarticularis with anterior or posterior displacement of a vertebra on the adjacent lower vertebra
