Lumbar Special Test Flashcards
Prone Knee Bend test
Assess for Nerve compression in lumbar roots
Bow string test
Assess for Sciatic Nerve tension or space occupying lesion in lumbar region
Straight Leg Test
Assess for sciatica, hamstring tightness, causes of lowback pain
Slump Test
Nerve root involvement, dural or menengial irritation
What is the positive sign for slump test and how to test
Seated. Slump thoracic forward, chin to chest, extend knee up, dorsiflex and look up. Localized pain in the lesion site: facet irritation
Radiating pain along the spine refferal patter upper or lower extremities: nerve compression
Positive sign for prone knee bend test and how to test
Neurological symptoms (sharp shooting tingling and numbness in the upper quads.
Positive sign for bow string. How?
Reproduction of symptoms.
Supine bring the hip into flexion and knee extended resting in therapist shoulder. Both hand grasp around the knee thumb slightly presses in popliteal region.
How to assess Straight leg Raise test
Supine. Test unaffected leg first. Flex hip with knee extended into 70degrees or until pain is felt, back off a little bit until pain is no longer felt, dorsiflex and flex neck
How to assess Straigt leg Raise test
Supine. Flex hip with knee extended into 70degrees or until pain or tightness is felt, back off until pain is no longer felt. Passively dorsiflex and flex neck.
Positive sign for straight leg Test
Pain felt at the opposite side- stace occupying lesion or disc herniation. (Leg Well Test)
Pain at 70degrees hip flexion- lumbar or SI joint dysfunction
Pain when lowered 20degrees that does not increase with neck flexion- hamstrings tightness
Pain with forced dorsiflexion- sciatic nerve involvement
How to test Bowstring Test
Supine bring the hip into flexion and leg raised until reproduction of symptoms, back off slightly glex knee about 20degree to reduce symptoms. Fingers or thumb slightly presses in popliteal region to reproduce symptoms.
Functional or structural scoliosis
Assess for: determine whether spinal curves are funcional or structural in nature
Positive sign for Structural or Functional Scoliosis
Structural- curves does not correct and the lateral bending is asymmetrical
Functional- curve corrects or reverses as the client bends towards the convex side
One Leg Lumbar
Assess for Stress Fracture in pars articularis, spondylosis or spondylolisthesis
