Lucocytes Flashcards
what is a lucocyte?
-White blood cells
Defending the body against viruses and bacteria
Where are leucocytes made?
Bone marrow
3 types of leucocytes?
Granulocytes
Lymphocytes
Monocytes
What happens when Leucocytes marginate?
Form a layer against the inner surface of the capillary wall then migrate
What happens when leucocytes migrate?
the cell will squeeze out of the bloodstream through the capillary wall to reach and engulf infected tissue
How much Granulocytes (granules in cytoplasm) do leucocytes have? & what are the 3 types
70%
Neutrophils
Eosinophils
Basophils
How much Agranulocytes (no granules in cytoplasm) do leucocytes have? And what are the 2 types
30%
Monocytes
Lymphocytes
Neutrophils
Granules that stain purple
phagocytic cells
Make 65% of all the white cells
Eosinophils
Granules that stain red
increase in number in allergic conditions
Make 3% of the white cells
Basophils
Granules stain blue
releases histamine
Make 1% of white cells
Monocyte
Important in inflammation and immunity when the body fights off chronic infections
Lymphocytes
25% leucocytes
Types B and T (natural killer cells)
Cells of immune system and fight infection.
what is the name for monocytes when they are found outwith the blood vessels in connective tissue
macrophages
what white blood cell is small and round with a nucleus which stains in a manner resembling a cartwheel?
plasma cells
small, irregular cell fragments, with no nuclei, are present in blood they are Called ………….. or …………….
platelets
thrombocytes
