Q

LSP - COUPLED MOTIONS

A

Pure rotation and pure side bending do not occur at any region in the spine below C1-C2

T6-L5 spinal segments

  • Left lateral flexion coupled with right rotation
  • Right lateral flexion coupled with left rotation

Lumbar motion is also coupled with sacral motion

  • Lumbar extension (hyperlordosis) is coupled with sacral nutation (anterior sacral tilting)
  • Lumbar flexion (hypolordosis) is coupled with sacral counter-nutation (posterior sacral tilting)
