Lower limb - muscle of the leg Flashcards
1
Q
Anterior leg muscles
A
- Tibialis anterior - dorsifexion and inversion of foot
- Lies lateral to tibia
- Extensor digitorum longus - extensor of lateral 4 toes and dorsiflexion
- lies lateral to tibialis anterior
- Extensor hallucis longus - extensor of big toe and dorsiflexion of foot
- lies deep to tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus
***All innervated by the deep fibular nerve
2
Q
Lateral leg muscles
A
Fibularis longus - most superficial
- eversion and plantar flexion of foot as wraps around medial malleolus under the foot
Fibularis brevis - deeper
- eversion of the foot as it passes over lateral malleolus and attaches in similar place to fibulas longus
***Both innervated by superficial fibular nerve
3
Q
Dorsal foot muscles
A
Extensor digitorum brevis - Extends lateral 4 toes at DIP
Extensor hallucis brevis - extends big toe at metatarsal joint
** Both innervated by the deep fibular nerve
