Lower Leg Muscles GA2 Flashcards
Muscles of Anterior Compartment
(All Deep Fibular Nerve)
Tibialis Anterior M.
Extensor Digitorum Longus M.
Extensor Hallucis Longus M.
Fibularis Tertius M.
All of these muscles Dorsiflex the ankle and indicudually have specifc functions on the ankle
Tibialis Anterior M.
(Anterior Compartment)
Attach: Lateral condyle and superior half of the lateral surface of tibia and interosseous membrane TO medial and inferior surface of medial cunieform and base of first metatarsal
Movmvent: Dorsiflexes ankle and inverts foot
Nerve: Deep Fibular Nerve
Extensor Digitorum Longus M.
(Anterior Compartment)
Attach:Lateral condyle of the tibia and superior 3/4 of medial surface of fibula and interosseous membrane TO middle and distal phalanges of lateral four digits
Movmvent: Extends lateral four digits and dorsiflexes ankle
Nerve: Deep Fibular Nerve
Extensor Hallucuis Longus M.
(Anterior Compartment)
Attach: Middle part of the anterior surface of fibula and interosseous membrane TO Dorsal aspect of base of distal phalanx of great toe (hallux)
Movmvent: Extends Great Toe and dorsiflexes ankle
Nerve: Deep Fibular Nerve
Fibularis Tertius M.
(Anterior Compartment)
Attach: Inferior third of anterior surface of fibula and interosseous membrane TO dorsum of base of 5th metatarsal
Movmvent: Dorsiflexes ankle and aids in eversion of the foot
Nerve: Deep Fibular Nerve
Muscles of Lateral Compartment
(All superfical fibular nerve (L5-S2)
Fibularis Longus M.
Fibularis Brevis M.
All muscles in the lateral compartment everts foot and weakly plantarflexes the ankle
Fibularis Longus M.
(Lateral Compartment)
Attach: Head and superior 2/3rds of lateral surface of the fibula TO base of 1st metatarsal and medial cunieform
Movmvent: Everts foot and weakly plantarflexes ankle
Nerve: Superficial Fibular Nerve
Fibularis Brevis M.
(Lateral Compartment)
Attach: Inferior 2/3rds of lateral surface of of the fibula TO dorsal surface of tuberosity on the lateral side of base of 5th metatarsal
Movmvent: Everts foot and weakly plantarflexes ankle
Nerve: Superficial Fibular Nerve
Muscles of the Superficial Posterior Compartment
(All innervated by Tibial Nerve (L4-S3))
Gastrocnemius M.
Soleus M.
Plantaris M.
All of the muscles in the superficial posterior compartment assist in plantarflexion and individually have own specifc functions
Gastrocnemius M.
(Superifical Posterior Compartment)
Attach:
-Lateral Head: lateral aspect of lateral condyle of femur
-Medial Head: popliteal surface of femur superior to medial condyle
BOTH TO –> Posterior Surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Movmvent: Plantarflexes ankle when knee is extended , rasies heel during walking , flexes leg at knee joint
Nerve: Tibial Nerve
Soleus M.
(Superifical Posterior Compartment)
Attach: Posterior Aspect of head and superior quarter of posterior surface of fibula , soleul line, and middle third of medial boarder of tibia , and tendinous arch extending between bony attchments TO Posterior Surface of calcaneus via calcaneous tendon
Movmvent: Plantarflexes ankle independent of postion of knee , stedies leg on the foot
Nerve: Tibial Nerve
Plantaris
(Superifical Posterior Compartment)
Attach:Inferior end of lateral supracondylar line of femur oblique politeal ligament TO posterior Surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Movmvent: Weakly assists gastrocnemius in plantarflexing ankle
Nerve: Tibial Nerve
Muscles of Deep Posterior Compartment
(All innervated by Tibial Nerve)
Popliteus M.
Flexor Hallucis Longus M.
Flexor Digitorum Longus M.
Tibialis Posterior M.
Popliteus M.
Flexor Hallucis Longus M.
Flexor Digitorum Longus M.
Tibialis Posterior M.
Popliteus M.
(Deep Posterior Compartment)
Attach:Lateral Surface of lateral condyle of femur and lateral meniscus TO Posterior surface of tibia and superior soleul line
Movmvent: Weakly flexes knee and unlocks it by rotating femur 5 degrees on fixed tibia, medially rotates tibia of unplanted limb
Nerve: Tibial Nerve (L4-S3)
Flexor Hallucis Longus M.
(Deep Posterior Compartment)
Attach: Inferior 2/3rds of posterior surface of fibula , inferior part of interosseous membrane TO base of distal phalanx of great toe (hallux)
Mvmnet:Flexes great toe at all joints, weakly plantarflexes ankle, supports medial longitudional arch of foot
Nerve: Tibial Nerve
