Normal grief
Occurs when patient is in the dying stages, end of life care, has terminal illness and family is preparing themselves, almost done their grieving and the patient hasn’t died yet. See frequently in cancer patients esp if dying process is long. Family comes to terms with it and wants to get on with their life. May lead to dying person to feel family has distanced themselves
Anticipatory grief
Experience grief but not able to open up and acknowledge this grief (Ex loss of person to HIV when person’s lifestyle has not been open. Common with suicides or loss of ex-spouce) Elongates grief and causes psychological problems. Or loss with uncertainty- missing people, POW, severe dementia/brain injury
