What is media imperialism?
The one directional nature of international media flows from a small number of source countries. This puts pressure on the smaller countries to produce media for its citizens although it is not likely that will make much money due to the lack of demand or interest.
Why is meritocracy a myth?
It states that consumers choose topics based on universally accepted conceptions of worth. Consumer demand is a product of industry supply (we can only buy what is available). Hollywood films are shown all around the world so there is less to compete against, they also higher better everyone to create, produce and market the film. We also do not know whose tastes determine the qualitative norm against which all other productions are measured and how those tastes are determined.
