Most secondary sector business have closed or moved away- only 11% in manufacturing

Describe transport as an opportunity.
Integrated public transport system- all linked and controlled by Transport For London
Oyster card- has to be easy- 25% of transport is public
Boris bikes-cheaper depending on usage time, swipe credit card- reduces congestion.
Describe urban greening as an opportunity.
47% of city is green- 8 mil trees
Hampstead heath- 7km from city, 790 acres
Urban greening wants everyone access to greenery within 300 m from their homes
London tree partnership- increase trees from 20% to 25%
What are 3 challenges in London?
Inequalities, housing, pollution/ waste
Describe inequalities as a challenge.
Significant wage inequality- many fall below minimum wage
Urban decline- little investment - mass unemployment
Many move away due to this- closure of shops e.t.c- more unemployment
Also schools- poor areas= low GCSEs- not a good job
Describe housing as a challenge.
Not enough homes for everyone due to
1. Lack of housing
2. Cost of housing (will increase by 80% by 2027)
3. Overcrowding
Many move to fringe- urban sprawl builds up housing there
Describe pollution and waste as a challenge.
Due to extensive road network, heating and air conditioning of homes
Ozone due to burning FFs- reduces lung function- poisonous
22,000,000 tonnes of waste a year
Aim to have no waste landfill by 2025
