Q

What is tacit consent according to Locke

A

Locke argued that while expressed consent makes one a full member of society, simply enjoying the state’s protection implies tacit consent, thereby obliging individuals to obey the government’s laws.

Q

What are universal political obligations

A

The task of justifying the state is often said to be the task of showing that there are universal
political obligations. To say that someone has political obligations is to say, at least, that they have the duty, in normal circumstances, to obey the law of the land, including paying taxes where these are due.
