What are the ten obligatory acts?
They show how a Muslim should live their life and how they should worship
They were given by the twelve imams who are believed by the Shia Muslims were chosen by God to be the successors after prophet Muhammad’s death.
Shias follow the Sunni Fie Pillars of Islam but have added to them and amended slightly.
Why are they imprtant?
Show commitment to faith Help Shia Muslims to connect to Allah Ease the suffering of others Promote a good society Means that they will be blessed with a good after life Connect with the Ummah
Name the ten obligatory acts and their meanigns.
Salah-pray 5 times a day
Sawm-fasting during Ramadan- ‘fasting is prescribed for you’
Hajj-Pilgrimage to Mecca- pilgrimage to the house is a duty
Zakah- Alms giving- ‘whatever you give in charity… will earn multiple rewards’
Khums- tax set at 20% by causes decided by Shia leaders- one-fifth of your battle gains belong to Allah
Jihad- striving in the way of Allah- strive for his cause
Amrbil ma’roof- encourage good actions- ‘order what is right’
Nahi’anil monkar- discourage evil actions- ‘forbid what is wrong’
Tawalla- Associated with good people e.g those who follow the ahl al-bayt- ‘I ask no reward from you for this, only affection due to sin’
Tabarra- dissociated with evil people- do not take my enemies as your allies
Describe Amrbil ma’roof.
responsibility of encouraging others towards the right path
encourage all fellow humans to do good deeds

Describe nahi anil munkar.
stop evil with your hands
use power, influence, status or force to stop bad things form happening
if can’t stop evil with hands speak out against evil
if not then at least hate it in your heart
Describe tawalla (expressing love towards god)
Love the ahl al-bayt
love and associate with the imams
Prophet said: ‘I do not ask you any reward for it except love of close relatives’
Describe tabarra (forbid what is evil)
Avoiding the enemies of God
‘You who believe do not take my enemies as you allies’
