What is Zakah and why is it done?

A

Zakah is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a duty performed on a regular basis. Zakah is not an option it is a compulsory act for all Muslims. This giving is to cleanse your money and possessions from excessive desire for them or greed. The idea is, that by giving this money you learn not to place too much importance on material wealth

A

‘alms are meant only for the poor and needy’

‘for God’s cause, help orphans and free slaves’

Why is it given?

A

Islam means peace so create a peaceful society
form of worship
‘Those who pay Zakah are counted among the successful believers’
Muhammad:’ the upper hand is better than the lower hand’ meaning more important to give than receive
any money not paid annually is not pure
