Living the Muslim life - 1st pillar Shahadah Flashcards
Why is the Shahadah important?
1st pillar which comes before all other pillars.
It is a testimony. It reminds people that there is no other God than
Allah – he is the only one worth worshipping.
The beginning of being a Muslim.
Rewards are promised to those who put Allah and the prophet before
everything else. ‘Whoever obeys God and the Messenger will be among those He has blessed’
What is Shahadah?
This is the basic statement of the Islamic faith: anyone who can’t recite wholeheartedly is not a Muslim
When a Muslim recites this they proclaim that:
That Allah is the only God, and that Muhammad is his prophet
That they personally accept this as true
That they will obey all the commitments of Islam in their life
Describe Tawhid the first part of the Shahadah.
it means ‘oneness’.
there is one God (monotheism), and teaches that oneness is central to the nature of Allah.
So according to
Muslims, Allah:
has no partners
is omniscient (knows all things)
is omnipotent (can do anything, is all-powerful)
is the one God of all time and all humankind
‘There is no God except Allah’
Describe risalah, the second part of the Shahadah.
Risalah - Muslims believe that Allah chooses his prophets.
These messengers are known as prophets.
The most important prophet was MUHAMMAD
Why is the idea of Risalah important?
1) Prophets of Allah brought the same message at different times,
indicating Islam was from the beginning
2) They brought the same message proving that Allah is unchanging
3) Islam is the true religion
4) All prophets prepared the way for the final prophet, Muhammed
