They couldn’t buy houses in certain area, could not find work with certain companies and could not get taken on in certain types of skilled trades.
What percentage of blacks lived in poverty?
50%.
What was unemployment levels compared to whites?
Unemployment was twice that of white Americans.
How were blacks barred from sport?
Opportunities were severely limited and black players were barred from American football until 1946 and from basketball until 1950.
What did WW2 show blacks?
That life could be better. Standards of living had improved for all during the war.
What was unfair for blacks?
Although many of them had fought against the racism of Hitler, changes for the blacks was very slow.
Where did blacks have to live?
They were not allowed to live the suburbs so gathered in the towns setting up their own communities.
What was growing for blacks in the south?
Work in industries.
