Who and when was the KKK founded?
By soldiers from the confederate army in six southern states in 1866.
What was the purpose of the KKK?
To maintain slavery, gain revenge for the loss of the civil war and to make sure that the blacks would not become equal citizens in the south, at least.
When did lynching come to an end?
1952.
Why were Klan groups re-established in the 50s?
The beginning of the civil rights movement, they wanted to challenge it.
When were over 40 homes bombed in Atlanta?
1951-52.
Why were bombing campaigns used?
To drive blacks out of neighborhoods.
What was Birmingham nicknamed?
Bombingham.
Why were Klansmen never prosecuted?
They had close links with the local police and government, and used this to continue their intimidation.

The bombing of a Baptist church in Birmingham which killed 4 girls.
