Liver Imaging Agents Flashcards
reticuloendothelial system imaging can include
spleen, liver, bone marrow
bone marrow uptake
residual that spleen and liver dont take up
liver uptake
80-90%
spleen uptake
5-10%
how does uptake work with liver imaging agentsq
uptake of particulate material by phagocytic cells that line the blood vessels of the liver, spleen, and bone marrow
what does uptake allow us to visualize
allows us to see space occupying lesions, structural trauma, or lack of phagocytic activity due to pathology
Tc-SC comes from…
coprecipitation of technecium and sulur= radiolabeled particulate
Tc-SC kit is composed of 3 things…
1- sodium thiosulfate in rxn vial with gelatin
2- a syringe with hydrochloric acid
3- a syringe with phosphate buffer solution
what happens when sodium thiosulfate and hydrochloric acid are heated together
a series of rxns occur that produce a precipitate of Tc + sulfur= Tc2S7
at this point tc is still in +7 electron state
after sodium thiosulfate and HCl acid are heated together, what step is nect
immerse rxn vial in water bath for 5 min
what occurs after 5 min water bath
add buffer solution to rxn vial to neutralize the pH to between 4-7 for better IV admin
what is the purpose of gelatin in rxn vial
to form colloidal suspension of particles when precipitate is heated
what particle size
1.0 micron causing milky appearence and no visible particles
blood clearence T1/2
2.5 min
expiration of
6 hrs from prep
