Lipids Flashcards
What is a competitive inhibitior of HMG-CoA-3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl coenzyme A? What is important?
STATINS
HMG-CoA enzyme 1st in cholesterol synthesis.
1. If cell cant make cholesterol, will remove from blood
2. L/T upregulation of LDL receptors and increased breakdown of LDL, so decreases LDL and TG.
How does statins improve atherosclerotic lesion stability?
decreases oxidative stress and vascular inflammation-
Moderate Intensity Therapy 20-40 mg
Simvastatin/ Zocor
High Intensity Therapy 80 mg; Moderate Intensity Therapy 10-20 mg
Atorvastatin/Lipitor
High Intensity Therapy 20-40 mg; Moderate Intensity Therapy 10 mg
rosuvastatin
Moderate Intensity Therapy 40-80 mg
Used often with HIV patients because less drug interactions
pravastatin
CyP3A4 (lots of interactions)
lovastatin
CyP2C9 (less interactions)
fluvastatin
CyP2C9 (less interactions)
