Lipid Digestion Flashcards
Acid Lipase
in stomach, ph 4-6
target TAG w/ short and medium FA
Lingual Lipase
Secreted from glands at back of tongue
Gastric Lipase
Secreted from gastric mucosa
Pancreatic Enzymes
digest dietary TAG, cholesteryl esters, phospholipids
Pancreatic Lipase
esterase
cleaves FA at C1 and C3 of glycerol backbone
makes 2 free FA and 2-monoacylglycerol
Colipase
from pancreas
binds pancreatic lipase and anchors it at lipid aqueous interface to promote PL activity in presence of bile salts
Cholesterol Esterase
from pancreas
digests esterified cholesterol
makes cholesterol and free FA
activity promoted by bile salts
Phospholipase A2
removes FA from position 2 to produce lysophospholipid and free FA
Lysophospholipase
removes FA from position 1 to make 1 FA and 1 glycerylphosphoryl base
Gut Endocrine Cells
in mucosa of lower duodenum and jejunum
sense lipids and partially digested proteins and low pH of chyme
secrete CCK and secretin
Cholecystokinin
CCK
peptide hormone secreted to blood in response to presence of lipids and partially digested proteins
CCK Function
promotes pancreatic enzyme secretion
makes gallbladder release bile
decreases gastric motility
Secretin
peptide hormone secreted to blood in response to low pH of chyme entering intestine
Secretin Function
promote release of bicarbonate rich solution from pancreas to SI
provides right pH for pancreatic enzyme activity
Lipid digestion in jejunum makes….
free FA
free cholesterol
2-monoacylglycerol
