Q

Describe a distance time graph for 100m sprinter?

A

A-b= state of rest. No change in distance per time

B-c= increasing gradient, distance increase per unit of time= acceleration

C-D= straight diagonal line shows increase in distance per unit of time. This shows constant speed. So sprinter has reached maximum speed.

D-E= decrease in gradient represents a decrease in speed. Slowing down as they’ve passed the line

Q

Describe a speed time graph?

A

0-A- A constant speed maintained as time increases

A-B= increasing gradient, shows an increase in speed per unit of time, shows an example of acceleration

B-C= horizontal line showing a constant speed maintained

C-D= a decreasing gradient shows speed decreasing per unit of time= the deceleration

Q

Describe the velocity/time graph for the descent of a skier down a ramp prior to take off?

A

Point A- velocity is 0 so this represent a state of rest. Ski jumper is seated and ready to stand

Point A-B= upward curve shows an increase in velocity per unit of time. This is an increasing rate of velocity or acceleration down the ramp.

Points B-C= horizontal line showing no change in velocity per unit of time. This shows uniform velocity, which is maintained during take off

Q

Describe the velocity time graph that shows a change in direction of a body?

A

Points A-B= player A applied a force to the ball accelerating it towards player B

Player B-C= deacceleration (downward curve shows a decrease in velocity) Player B cushions the ball to deaccelerate the ball into a resting position at C

Player D-E- this shows acceleration to followed by deceleration in the opposite direction. Player B applies a force to the ball accelerating it back to player A, who cushions it, deaccelerating it to rest
