Limb Blood Vessels Flashcards
Starting from the aorta/brachiocephalic artery, what is the order of thoracic limb blood vessels?
Subclavian, axillary, brachial, median
What are the parent blood supplies to the forelimb?
Aorta (left side) and brachiocephalic artery (right side)
What blood vessels provide palpable pulses in the forelimb?
Brachial artery, median artery, superficial palmar artery
Describe the cephalic vein and it’s importance.
- Runs strait on the cranial antebrachium on the medial side
- Is easily catheterized
On what side of the limb do arteries travel?
- Medial
On what side of the limb do veins travel?
- Medial
- Lateral
Trace the blood vessel which primarily supplies the pelvic limbs proximally to distal?
Aorta, external iliac artery, fermoral artery, popliteal
What blood vessel offers a palpable pulse in the pelvic limb?
Femoral artery
Describe the femoral triangle.
- Proximal pelvic limb area bordered by the inguinal ligament, the sartorius, and the adductor longus muscle
- Deep femoral artery, femoral vein, and great saphenous vein run here
Give the location, supply, and clinical relevance of the lateral saphenous vein.
- Lateral distal on the leg
- Branches off of the femoral vein
- Accessible for venipuncture (only if other vessels indisposed for use)
Which blood vessel services the right thoracic limb?
Brachiocephalic artery
Which blood vessel services the left thoracic limb?
Aorta
