What is darkness?
The absence of light.
What is a light source?
A light source is something that has a light of its own.
What are shiny objects?
Objects that reflect light. They don’t make their own light.

Which is the main source of light in the daytime?
The sun.

How is a shadow formed?
A shadow is made when travelling light is blocked by an object.
How does light travel?
It travels in straight lines. It cannot bend. These are called rays.
How can a shadow change?
By moving an object closer to the source of light or moving an object further away from a source of light.
What is a solar eclipse?
When the moon is between the earth and the sun
What is light?
Light is a form of energy that helps us to see.
Is the moon a source of light?
No. It reflects light from the sun.

What is artificial sources of light?
It is the kind of light made by man.
Give examples of artificial sources of light.
Candle, torch, oil lamp, bulb, fire, headlights, floodlights.

It is the kind of light made by God.

Sun, stars, glowworm, firefly, lightening, angler fish
What causes darkness?
Darkness of the earth is caused by lack of sunlight.
What are nocturnal animals?
Nocturnal animals are animals that are more active at night time than during the day.
Give examples of nocturnal animals.
Bats, Hippos, Catfish, owls, cockroaches
What are transparent materials?
These are materials that allow light to pass through them.
What are translucent materials?
These are materials that allow a little light to pass through them.
What are opaque materials?
These are materials that do not allow any light to pass through them.
Give examples of transparent materials.
Glass, Glass window, air, water

How do we see things?
When light hits an object it reflects (bounces off) and enters our eyes.
Give examples of reflective surfaces.
Smooth and shiny objects such as mirrors and polished metals reflect light

Dull and dark surfaces such as dark fabrics.
Name uses of reflective surfaces.
- Mirrors in cars reflect light to help drivers to look behind.
- Reflective stripes on clothing and bikes help cyclists to be extra visible at night.
How do we keep safe in the sun?
- Put on sunscreen
- Put on sunglasses
- Put on a hat.
When are shadows long in the day?
In the morning and in the evening
When are shadows short in the day?
At noon or in the middle of the day.
