Materials are matter that objects are made from.

Materials that we get from nature.

What are manufactured (processed) materials?
They are materials that are made from natural materials. They are also called man-made or artificial materials.

plastic, steel, glass, paper, nylon.
Which was the first artificial fibre ever made?
Nylon
Where does rubber come from?
It is a natural material that comes from the white juice of a rubber tree.
Give examples of things that are made of rubber.
Tyres, elastic band, gumboots, rubber gloves.
Where does paper come from?
It is manufactured from wood from a bamboo tree.
Name things made from paper.
Books, envelopes, newspapers, magazines.
Where does cotton come from?
It comes from the seedpod of a cotton plant.

It is used to make cotton wool and clothes like shirts, skirts, dresses, cotton socks.

It is obtained from the skins of animals like sheep, Angora rabbit, Kashmiri goat, Yak, camels

It comes from the skin of dead animals like cows.

It comes from under the ground.

Where do we find rocks?
Rock is under the whole surface of the earth.
How were rocks formed (made)?
- Rocks were first made when the earth cooled down millions of years ago.
- Some rocks were squashed.
- Some rocks were melted.
- Some were made at the bottom of the sea.
What are fossils?
They are the remains of plants and animals turned to stone.
Which is the hardest rock?
Diamond. It is very rare and valuable.
