What is food?
Food is a substance we eat or dink
What does food help with?
It helps humans and animals to grow and stay alive.
Where does food come from?
It comes from either plants or animals.
Give examples of food that come from plants
- Rice, wheat, maize, barley, oats, millets
- Vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, brinjal, onions, capsicum, cabbage
- Fruits like mango, oranges, apple, papaya, grapes
What is diet?
The food and drink that is eaten or drunk by a person
What is balanced diet?
A diet that has all the food types (groups).
Name the 3 food groups in a balanced diet.
Carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins.
What is another name for carbohydrates?
Energy giving foods
What is another name for proteins?
Body building foods
What is another name for vitamins?
Protective foods. They help us to fight against diseases.
Give examples of energy giving foods.
cereals, rice, wheat, oats, starchy foods like potatoes, sugar like sweets, ugali, pasta, pizza, chips

What is exercise?
It is an activity we do to keep our bodies strong and fit.

Walking, running, swimming, jogging, yoga, jumping

What are the importance of water in the body?
- To help cool our bodies when it is hot.

What are the things we need to grow strong and healthy?
Water, food, exercise and sleep.
What are the things we do for personal hygiene?
- We should take a bath everyday and wear clean clothes.
- We should wash our hair at least twice a week.
- We should cut our nails regularly.
- We should not eat uncovered food.
- We should boil water before drinking if it is not mineral water.
- We should keep our house and surrounding clean.
