Ligation Flashcards
1
Q
What is Ligation used for?
A
3 dimensional control of tooth movrment
2
Q
What two types of ligation are used?
A
•Elastomeric ligatures (modules)
• SS ligatures 0.009 + 0.010
3
Q
Advantages of SS ligatures?
A
• cheap
•clean
•loose= low friction and good sliding (if Teflon coated)
•tight=good torque
4
Q
Disadvantages of SS Ligatures
A
•Time consuming
•sharp
•tight= poor sliding
•loose= poor rotation
•Teflon coating can come off
5
Q
Advantages of Elastomeric Ligature Modules
A
•Quick to place
•Good rotational control
•fluoride releasing
6
Q
Disadvantages of Elastomeric Ligature Modules
A
• Hydrolytic Degrading
• Absorb water and bacteria
•Poor sliding
• loss of colour/ stain
• full bracket engagement is not always achieved
