choices an individual makes regarding their lifestyle
Examples
use of technology, smoking, substance misuse, involvement in crime, influence of others (role models)
Use of technology - can influence health and well-being positively and negatively
Positives - track our health, keep in touch with family and friends, homework for school
Negatives - not socialising with friends and family, mental health (bad comments), less physically active
Smoking
Health risks - cancer (mouth, throat, liver, cervix), eye disease, diabetes, heart rate increases, strokes, lung disease
Substance misuse - when someones drinking or drug use becomes problematic, harmful or dependent
Factors - homelessness, peer pressure, poverty
Growth and development
Physical - not look after themselves
Intellectual - not do well in education
Emotional - lack of confidence
Social - feel isolated as they have no one to speak to, may get involved in crime
Involvement in crime
Gangs - risk of emotional abuse, risk of being injured or killed, isolated from family members
Violence - trust issues, repeated behaviours, sexual and emotional abuse
Influence of other role models - who’s behaviours are admired by other individuals they can be family, teachers, celebrities
Positives - learning new skills, volunteering, healthy lifestyle
Negatives - violence, unhealthy lifestyle, declining opportunities
