Behaviours which are challenging
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
A condition which affects an individual’s behaviour may see signs at an early age
Symptoms or behaviours
- lack of focus
- attachment difficulties
- forgetfulness
Affect growth and development
Physical: problems with attention
Intellectual: have lower grades due to focus
Emotional: restless
Social: react inappropriately to situations
Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD)
A lifelong development condition which begins in childhood. Involves challenges with social interaction, speech, non-verbal communication and restricted behaviours.
Symptoms or behaviours
- sensory issues
- avoiding eye contact
- difficulty with communication

Physical: lower fitness skills
Intellectual: develop more slowly
Emotional: struggle with emotions
Social: not seem interested in other individuals
Tourette’s syndrome (TS)
Causes an individual to make sounds and movements called tics
Symptoms or behaviours
- shoulder shrugging
- eye rolling
- swearing
Growth and development
Physical: problems with attention
Intellectual: causes stress and anxiety
Emotional: struggle with their emotional control in social situations (important for this condition as it can lead to mental health conditions)
Social: difficulty making friends
