Development primary sexual characteristics
Physical
Female:
> the uterus enlarges and the vagina lengthens.

Male:

Males:
> Changes in larynx - causing voice to deepen.

Intellectual
Concrete operational (7-11)
> ability to conserve
children begin to solve mental problems supports such as counters and objects.
Formal operational (11-15)
> ability to think and manipulate ideas abstractly

Emotional
Identify:
> sense of self continues to develop.
> a person needs a clear understanding of identity in order to feel secure when working with other people or in order to make a loving sexual attachment.
Social
Peer pressure
> young people become more independent, socialising outside the family and gaining more freedom.
> peer groups play an important part in this stage of social development and begin to have a greater influence on values, views and opinions.
> drinking alcohol, taking drugs and unprotected sexual activities.
