Genetic Conditions: cystic fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis:
> disease that causes the body to make thick, sticky mucus.
Cause problems in two major areas:
> the lungs and the digestive system.
PIES:
P - not fully be able to participate in physical activities.
I - not usually affected
E - depression, withdrawn, becoming over dependent and embarrassed
S - may have difficulty interacting with other children due to absence.
Genetic Conditions: brittle bone disease
Brittle Bone Disease:
> fragile bones that break easily.
Genetic Conditions: PKU
PKU:
> prevents a child from breaking down phenylalanine, an amino acid. It is in foods such as milk, meat and eggs.
> if a child eats food containing the amino acid - causes a build up of harmful substances- brain damage.
Genetic Conditions: Huntington’s disease
Huntington’s disease:
> genetic disorder that causes progressive damage to certain nerve cells in brain.
> muscles coordination and cause mental decline and behavioural changes.
Genetic disorder: Klinefelters syndrome
Klinefelters syndrome:
> affects males.
> boys are born with one or more extra X chromosomes.
> having extra X chromosome can cause a male to have some physical traits.
Social factors: family dysfunction
A family that is not providing all of the support and benefits associated with begins in a family. Reason why: Stressed: > health problems > mental health problems > poor housing > low income Parent divorce or separation
