language development:
-uses nearly 1500 words (3-4 years)
-talks about past & future events (5-6 years)
-follows the meaning of others’ conversation (5-6 years)
-uses imaginative language in play to tell stories (5-6 years)
-uses appropriate grammar in spoken & written language (7-8 years)
social & emotional:
-begins to share (3-4 years)
-begins to develop theory of mind, an awareness that others have different thoughts, feelings & beliefs (4-5 years)

adolescence motor and language development milestones
motor milestones:
-fine motor skills continue to improve i.e. coordination
-females do not make any significant gains overall in motor skills after 14 unless training for a specific sport
-gross motor skills of males (particularly physical strength and endurance) improve up to early 20s
language development milestones
-understand figurative language and sarcasm
-learn approximately 10 new words a day
-code switch their communication style to suit their context
adolescence social & emotional milestones
-start exploring their identity, vocational sexual etc
-becoming more independent from family an peer relationships becoming more important
